AECT Standard 5

Candidates explore, evaluate, synthesize, and apply methods of inquiry to enhance learning and improve performance

Research

Artifact 1-
Current State and Future Vision in Online Distance Learning: Accessibility of Inquiry Learning in an Online Learning Environment research report

STANDARD 5.1 Theoretical Foundations – Candidates demonstrate foundational knowledge of the contribution of research to the past and current theory of educational communications and technology.

This artifact was completed for “EME6457: Distance Learning” taught by Dr. Sanghoon Park. The purpose of this assignment was to produce and experience various elements of distance teaching and learning, as well as research the implications of distance learning from the past to now. The focus of my research was on “Current State and Future Vision in Online Distance Learning: Accessibility of Inquiry Learning in an Online Learning Environment”.

This artifact provides evidence of Standard 5.1 because I had to demonstrate mastery of reading and synthesizing pertinent information from multiple academic publications in order to draw conclusions about my research topic of accessibility in distance learning; as well as make connections from the written report to a visual product with original narrations, adhering to the principles of multimedia.

Through the creation of the artifact, I learned how to identify relevant resources, constraints, and context of the development and delivery environments; identify how the course ware will be used in the curriculum; evaluate how the setting characteristics may impact proposed instructional approaches; and state a rationale for the selection of the resources and constraints of the development and delivery environments chosen
(Analysis and Technology Inc., 2018, Appendix B).

Artifact 2- Curriculum Leadership Statement: Inequalities in Computer Science

STANDARD 5.2 Method – Candidates apply research methodologies to solve problems and enhance practice.

This artifact was completed for “EDG6627: Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction”taught by Dr. Daryl Ward. The purpose of this project was to discuss a curriculum issue that informed by foundational material; reflect on the origins and influences of one’s values, beliefs, and practices affecting perspective and practice related to the curriculum issue and leadership growth; describe the ethical and diversity concerns related to the issue; and write a formal APA standard report.

This artifact provides evidence of Standard 5.2 because used research materials from both within and outside of the course materials in order to conduct a thorough analysis of the inequalities of computer science both within the academic setting and within the current work force. Utilizing this research, I was able to draw a conclusion including suggestions about how to balance the inequalities.

Through the creation of the artifact, I learned how to differentiate between the types of learners that will benefit from the instruction from those who will have difficulty comprehending the course ware; discuss learning theories, instructional design strategies, instructional psychology, and learning styles appropriate to the curricular objectives; and describe and provide a rationale for the selection of an instructional approach
(Analysis and Technology Inc., 2018, Appendix B).

Additional Artifacts:

The following artifacts show additional competence of Standard 5- Research.

This artifact was completed for “EDG6627: Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction”taught by Dr. Daryl Ward. The purpose of this project was to research and reports on the biography of an educational theorist and their relationship to their major theory; explain the theory and context for its development; explore criticisms of the theory; describe research finding on an application of the theory in practice; provide examples of instructional practice based on the theory; and relate curriculum and instructional practices to the theory and learners to be served.
